Hello, I’m Michelle and this is my maiden venture into the world of blogging.

I love books, first and foremost. And I love reading. I also love the idea of reading. But sadly, this is not something I have found myself to be doing as much as I would like to. Clearly a case of “Too many books, too little time & energy”. Coupled with the fact that I am a rather slow reader who also happens to have an “unhealthy” obsessive compulsive book buying disorder, this really gets me quite stuck in a rather vicious cycle.  Thankfully, I can take comfort in the words of Alberto Manguel, from his The Library At Night :

Visitors often ask if I’ve read all my books; my usual answer is that I’ve certainly opened every one of them. The fact is that a library, whatever its size, need not be read in its entirety to be useful; every reader profits from a fair balance between knowledge and ignorance, recall and oblivion. . . .

I have no feeling of guilt regarding the books I have not read and perhaps will never read; I know that my books have unlimited patience. They will wait for me till the end of my days.

While I’m hoping that the end of my days are still a long way coming, I will still endeavor to read as much and as best as I can in the present. And I intend to enjoy every bit of the journey while I am at it!

This blog will therefore be that platform, or rather, playground, where I can simply revel in the pleasures of reading (& the occasional travelling).  The footprints left behind in this blog will serve as a form of recording this much anticipated journey.

Do feel free to drop in at any point along the way if you so wish to….. because you are most certainly welcome. 😉

  1. I just popped over from A Work in Progress and wanted to welcome you to the blogging world. I’m not a blogger, but I follow about two dozen reading or animal welfare blogs, looking forward to new posts from someone every morning with breakfast.

You’re now on my list. Of the seven books on your nightstand on the left, I’ve read five, so I think I’ll be interested in what you’re reading. I also like letters and diaries.

    1. Thanks for the welcome, Joan! Very kind of you to do so. 🙂
Glad to know we are likely to share similar reading tastes, esp letters and diaries. Am also honoured to think that one of these days, we could be sharing your breakfast together via my posts! 😉

    1. I just recently read a quote saying something about when one buys a book, one is under the the ‘illusion’ that he or she is also buying the ‘time and space’ that comes with reading the book. Although I know how far from the truth that is, it is nevertheless an ‘illusion’ I still find myself gladly buying into. Hence, the ever growing mount TBR!
Thanks for dropping by, otherwise I would not have had the pleasure of discovering your beautiful blog! 🙂

  2. I have just discovered your blog via “A Work in Progress” and what a beautiful blog it is! I note you are reading May Sarton, a writer not much known in the UK, and who I discovered on a long ago trip to New York. I loved reading her. You might like to read an article I found on her by Susan Hill which I also read long ago, but I found very interesting! Her is a link that reproduces it. http://languageisavirus.com/may-sarton/writing_private_lives.php#.UcFludBwbIU
I look forward to reading you regularly!

    1. Thanks so much for dropping by, Deborah! And for the lovely link to Susan Hill’s article. Much appreciated. I look forward to reading more of Sarton’s works as well, especially her journals. Have you managed to get through the whole lot of them?
